Pourledger is built and supported by a single developer. Most questions are answered below. If yours isn't, send a note — replies usually arrive within a day or two.
Please include your iOS version, device model, and Pourledger version (found in Settings → About) when reporting a bug.
How the 7-day trial and one-time purchase work.
When you first open Pourledger, you get full access to every feature for 7 days — no payment required, no card on file. The trial begins the moment you open the app for the first time and runs continuously regardless of how often you use the app during that period.
After 7 days, if you haven't purchased, the app shifts to read-only mode: your existing data stays visible, but adding new entries or recipes will prompt you to unlock with the one-time $4.99 purchase.
No. Pourledger is a single $4.99 one-time purchase. There are no recurring charges, no auto-renewal, and no tiers. Pay once and the app is yours permanently across all of your iOS devices signed in to the same Apple ID.
Open Pourledger on the new device, go to Settings → Restore Purchase, or tap Restore purchase on the unlock screen. As long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID that made the original purchase, full access will be restored — no receipt needed.
Tap Restore purchase on the unlock screen. This re-checks your Apple ID's entitlements with the App Store. If that doesn't work, ensure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID used for the purchase, then try again. If the issue persists, email support@pourledger.com with your Apple ID's purchase receipt.
Where it lives, how to move it, and what we can see (nothing).
Entirely on your device, in Pourledger's private app storage (SwiftData / Core Data). The app makes no network connections — this is enforced by iOS itself via App Transport Security.
We have no server, no account system, and no way to read your data. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
Pourledger's data is included in your standard iCloud iPhone backup if you have one enabled (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup). It is not separately synced via iCloud Drive in this version.
For deliberate backup or transfer between devices, use Settings → Export to generate a .whiskey file.
Go to Settings → Export. Pourledger generates a .whiskey file containing all your whisky entries and cocktail recipes. You can then send it via AirDrop, email, save to Files, or any standard iOS share destination.
Note: photos are stored separately and are not bundled into the export file in this version — they remain on the device.
Tap any .whiskey file on your iPhone — in Files, Mail, or AirDrop — and iOS will offer to open it in Pourledger. The app shows a preview of what's about to be imported and lets you choose Merge (add to existing data) or Replace (clear and import fresh).
You can also build recipes in the Recipe Creator on this site, download as .whiskey, AirDrop to your iPhone, and tap to import.
Deleting the app removes all of its local data permanently. Export to a .whiskey file first. After reinstalling, restore your purchase, then open the .whiskey file to import everything back.
On-device OCR using Apple's Vision framework.
OCR works best with even lighting, the label flat to the camera, and minimal glare. Stylised labels (script fonts, embossed text, very small print) are harder to recognise. Pourledger's classifier makes a best-effort guess at which line is the distillery, ABV, age, etc. — you can always edit or reject any suggestion on the review screen before saving.
If a specific common bottle consistently fails, send a photo to support@pourledger.com and we'll improve the heuristics.
No. OCR runs entirely on-device via Apple's Vision framework. The image never leaves your iPhone. Pourledger has no network access at all.
What's supported and what's coming.
iOS 17.0 and later. The app uses SwiftData and modern Vision APIs, both of which require iOS 17+.
Pourledger runs on iPad as a universal app from a single purchase. It currently uses the iPhone layout scaled up; a tailored iPad layout is planned for a future update.
Not at this time. Pourledger is iOS-only and there is no plan for an Android version. A Mac (Catalyst) version is being considered.
The web Recipe Creator on this site is intentionally limited to recipe building only — your tasting notes and journal entries stay on your iPhone.
Pourledger is intended for adults of legal drinking age. The 17+ rating reflects the alcohol-related content (recipes, tasting notes, distillery information). The app shows an age gate on first launch.
Pourledger improves based on what you send.
